Director of Technical Services at the Youth Employment Agency (YEA), Sulemana Abdul-Salam, has commended NASCO Feeding Minds, in collaboration with the Mandela Washington Fellowship Association of Ghana and the La Caixa Foundation, for empowering Ghanaian youth with practical training in digital entrepreneurship.
The initiative, launched at the University of Ghana, Legon, on August 30, 2025, aims to equip participants with skills in graphic design, online business management and e-commerce to promote self-employment and curb youth unemployment.
Speaking at the launch of the Digital Apprenticeship Training Programme, Abdul-Salam urged young people to shift their focus from white-collar jobs to alternative career paths.
“Opportunities are not always readily available, and many of us fail to take advantage of the few that come. Now, technology offers the chance to work remotely and earn an income without needing a formal office space,” he said.
He added that e-commerce and other digital industries provide sustainable avenues for young people to earn a living and called on them to acquire practical skills beyond the classroom.
Executive Director of NASCO Feeding Minds, Banasco Seidu Nuhu, emphasised the importance of digital literacy in addressing unemployment and discouraging irregular migration.
“A lot of young people are full of potential but lack opportunities at home. With digital skills, they can use the internet to create sustainable businesses and income sources,” he said.
A final-year student who participated in the training described the programme as impactful, noting that learning graphic design had opened a new pathway to starting her own business and earning an income.
The Digital Apprenticeship Training Programme reflects a broader push by stakeholders to empower Ghanaian youth with practical tools for self-reliance in an evolving digital economy.
