The Minister for Energy and Green Transition, John Abdulai Jinapor, has announced an increase in natural gas supply as part of ongoing efforts to stabilise electricity generation and reduce reliance on costly liquid fuels.
According to him, strategic measures have been implemented to enhance power generation efficiency and reduce dependence on expensive fuel alternatives.
Speaking at the Government Accountability Series in Accra on Wednesday, July 16, 2025, the minister noted that the increased supply is contributing to improved operational performance across thermal plants, which remain a significant part of Ghana’s power generation mix.
He stated that natural gas supply has risen from 80 to 100 million standard cubic feet per day.
“To stabilise fuel supply for power plants and ensure affordable electricity, we successfully increased gas supply from N-Gas from 80 to 100 million standard cubic feet per day (mmscfd). ENI’s supply also rose from 245 to 270 mmscfd,” he announced.
Looking ahead, John Jinapor hinted at an expansion of Ghana’s gas infrastructure to support the country’s energy transition agenda.
“In the next few weeks, we expect gas supply from Jubilee to also increase by about 30 mmscfd. These strategic gains are helping reduce reliance on expensive liquid fuels and improve generation efficiency,” he added.
