The Ministry of Food and Agriculture (MoFA) has pledged its support for a newly inaugurated agri-input hub in Yagaba, Mamprugu Moagduri District of the North East Region, aimed at improving smallholder farmers’ access to inputs, training and market opportunities.

The hub, established through a collaboration between the African Fertilizer and Agribusiness Partnership (AFAP) and global agribusiness company ETG, is expected to address long-standing challenges of affordability and availability of agricultural inputs in the district.

It will also serve as a training centre for farmers on modern farming practices and post-harvest management.

At the launch, representatives from the district assembly, MoFA and farmer groups underscored the importance of the facility. Speaking on behalf of the District Chief Executive, Adam Karim said limited access to quality inputs had long hindered productivity and incomes.

He welcomed the initiative as a turning point for local farmers.

District MoFA Director, Zachariah Kwabena, assured that the ministry would back the hub to ensure its sustainability, noting that it would operate under AFAP’s Community-Based Advisor (CBA) model, which links rural farmers to extension support.

AFAP’s Regional Director for West Africa, Nana-Aisha Mohammed, said the project sought not only to ease last-mile access to inputs but also to expand opportunities for young people in agribusiness.

She encouraged other input companies to partner in reaching farmers in remote areas.

ETG’s Technical Sales Agronomist, Jonas Ayanore, reiterated the company’s commitment to the partnership, stressing that farmers’ growth was central to their business model.

The hub forms part of AFAP’s broader effort to strengthen Ghana’s agricultural value chain, having already engaged more than 1,500 young people across the country in agribusiness and extension services.
