The Ministry of Food and Agriculture has given assurance of its implementation of measures to ensure that it is more efficient in revenue generation and financial management.

The assurance was given after it came to light that the Ministry had shirked its oversight responsibility in ensuring that proceeds from an auction sale of Ministries’ vehicles were duly paid.

Poor records keeping and unavailability of documentations and information regarding the auction process also pushed the Ministry to give the assurance.

The assurance was given during the Public Accounts Committee’s sitting on Wednesday when the Ministry of Food and Agriculture appeared before it to respond to their inclusion in the Auditor General’s report for some financial misappropriation in the auctioning of some vehicles.

The delegation from the Ministry was led by Minister of State at the Ministry, Dr. Nurah Gyiele. He was accompanied by the Chief Director, Director of Finance and Director of Agriculture Engineering Sciences.

Dr. Nurah Gyiele apologised to the committee for the improper methods and procedures previously used and pleaded that the committee treated them with some leniency as measures have been put in place to correct anomalies in the system and improve its efficiency.

They also pledged to abide all existing laws and regulations regarding auctions so as to avoid some infractions of the law as was the case previously.

The Committee begun sitting on Tuesday when the Bank of Ghana appeared before it to answer questions with regards the 2015 Auditor General’s report.
