NDC denies any plot with serial killer

Accra, Aug. 18, GNA - The National Democratic Congress (NDC) on Monday denied ever having anything to do with Charles Quansah, who is jailed at Nsawam Medium Security Prisons for his involvement in the serial killings of women during the run-up of 2000 elections.

The NDC said its attention has been drawn to a statement the Minister of Information, Nana Akomea, made at a press conference on August 14, this year, linking a so called plot at the Nsawam Prison to the NDC by alleging that "the report has demonstrated the lengths to which the opposition NDC can go to discredit the government."

A statement, Mr Bede Ziedeng, Deputy General Secretary (Operations) of the NDC signed in Accra said it was however, strange that anytime the NPP government was under pressure "for creating some mess, it resorts to finding some excuses by blaming the NDC for one thing or the other."

It said; "the NDC is committed to the deepening and growth of the infant democracy that we are nursing for ourselves and so will not engage in any practices that will impact negatively on it."

The NDC said; "it has no link with the prisons and furthermore the politically convicted former Ministers even though, members of the party, are individuals, and their actions or inactions in prison, if any, can only be attributable to they themselves and not the NDC."

The NDC asked if the plot were to be true, why did the Minister make the report available to the press instead of brandishing it in their face.

The statement said all that the government was doing was just to put the NDC in a bad light.
