The Ministry of Communications, Digital Technology, and Innovations has called on all MTN consumers to maintain their composure following the discovery of a cyberattack that affected over 5,700 MTN subscribers.

The Ministry stated that it is striving to determine whether the Mobile Network Operator has committed any violations.

“The Ministry urges all customers to remain calm as we work together to resolve the issue and keep the public updated,” a press release issued in Accra on Tuesday 29th April, 2025 stated.

“The Ministry is working closely with the Cyber Security Authority (CSA), the National Communications Authority (NCA) and the Data Protection Commission (DPC) to investigate the potential breach,” it assured.

The Ministry explained that, “This collaboration aims to determine the extent of the breach and ensure that necessary measures are taken to protect customer data. The Ministry will ensure that affected customers are contacted in line with Data Protection Laws.”

MTN Ghana previously declared that the data of about 5,700 of its customers was impacted by a recent cybersecurity incident.

MTN Group said in a press release on April 28, 2025, that although their platforms are still fully functional, they are taking the situation seriously and are keeping a careful eye on it.

The notification states that MTN is now collaborating with cybersecurity specialists to carry out a comprehensive forensic examination in order to determine the incident's full impact. The business underlined how crucial its systems' availability, confidentiality, and integrity are to its business operations and customer support.
