Mr Ebenezer Kakrah Hammah, the Chief Executive Officer, McHammah Engineering, has called for the establishment of a body to streamline the operations of commercial vehicles or ‘trotro’ seats manufacturers in the country.

He said in designing trotro seats; manufacturers must always give priority to the human body comfort.

He cited instances where some 'trotro' seats, were terribly designed, such that whenever one sat in them, his kneecaps virtually kick against the metals of the next seat, which was very disturbing.

He observed that the metal parts of some trotro seats were exposed and could injure passengers, noting that all these bad practices were not helping the automobile industry in Ghana.

Speaking to the Ghana News Agency in Accra, Mr Hammah said manufacturing of vehicle seats was an area of expertise and many small and medium enterprises had difficulty accessing regular and constant training to upgrade their knowledge and skills.

He noted that having a body to regulate the activities of automobile seats manufacturers, especially the wayside artisans, would bring sanity into the system and comfort to commuters.

Mr Hammah, who is also an inventor, an industrialist and an entrepreneur, urged his fellow engineers to abide by their professional code of ethics, and to put their work first before profit.

He urged his fellow engineers to at least polish their handy works for the comfort of people.

Mr Hammah also called for the promotion of technical education as part efforts to accelerate the nation's socioeconomic development.

"It is time we give maximum attention to technical education in Ghana".

Mr Hammah, who was recently inducted into the Institution of Engineering and Technology, Ghana (IETG), also appealed to the Government to change the curriculum of technical education to reflect the reality on the ground.

He said in order to empower technical education students; their course outline should be 70 percent practical and 30 percent theoretical.

Mr Hammah also appealed to the Government to use local engineers in the execution of its ‘One-District, One-Factory’ (D1F1) flagship project.
