Market indices slump again on another big loss

The main market indices of the Accra bourse were down again on Friday, this time dragged down by a big loss by Aluworks (ALW).

The Ghana Stock Exchange (GSE) All Share Index was down 3.72 points to 1,130.58 from Wednesday's close of 1,334.40 when a big loss by Ghana Breweries Limited affected the indices. Change for the year was lower at 38.95 per cents from 39.34 per cent while market capitalisation also slipped to 4,895.59 billion cedis from 4,902.83 billion cedis.

Total shares traded, however, also slumped to 62,300 shares from 542,400. In the broader market, there were seven price changes - six positive and one negative.

ALW lost 200 cedis to 3,800 cedis. Fan Milk Limited (FML) gained nine cedis at 1,690 cedis, Ghana Commercial Bank was richer by three cedis at 3,508 cedis, while Mechanical Lloyd gained seven cedis at 270 cedis. Unilever was richer by two cedis at 4,305 cedis and Standard Chartered Bank and Mobil Oil Ghana Limited gained one cedi each at 27,002 cedis and 19,721 cedis respectively.
