Mangoes, cashew have potential at Afram Plains

The Kwahu Afram Plains North District has a lot of potential for large scale cultivation of mangoes and cashew.

Currently, ADRA-Ghana is cultivating hybrid mangoes at Somese in the Kwahu Afram Plains South District and indications are that the crop could be a potential cash crop for the whole of the Afram Plains in future.

A lot of farmers have cultivated the crop in the Kwahu Afram Plains North District and many of them have cultivated 10 acres each.

The cashew farmers have also formed an association and look for market for their produce,

The Ghana News Agency (GNA) Media Auditing and Tracking of Development Project team found that some buyers of the cashew come from Tema.

The farmers, the Ministry of Food and Agriculture annually publish the names and contact of potential cashew traders which enable the cashew growers to find market for their produce.

The GNA Media Auditing and Tracking of Development Project is sponsored by STAR-Ghana, a multi-donor agency and the project was initiated to promote transparency, social accountability and good governance.
