Ghana’s biggest telecommunications company MTN Wednesday commissioned its ultra-modern service centre in Kejetia in the Ashanti regional capital.

The company is convinced that the siting of the 3-storey edifice at Kejetia will serve a strategic business purpose of ensuring excellent service delivery to the traders and others who work in the Central Business District of Kumasi and showcase more of MTN’s hardware and services to clients who visit the office.

Speaking on the sidelines of the commissioning, Sales and Distribution Executive of MTN; Mr. Eric Nsarkoh said the old structure that used to be at the same location outlived its use in terms of design and capacity and hence a decision to have something that befits the kind of legacy Kumasi has.

For his part, Nana Sewiahene; Nana Amankwa Sarkodie II who represented Asantehene Otumfuo Osei Tutu II at the ceremony said the great works of MTN is glaring enough for all to see and added that the great King supports the great works of the telco. He lauded MTN’s Mobile Money services but was quick to lament the growing phenomenon of Mobile Money fraud. He said due to its size, MTN’s network is being used as the main platform to perpetrate Mobile Money fraud and appealed for solutions to this challenge.

Metropolitan Chief Executive of Kumasi; Mr. Osei Assibey Antwi was excited that MTN had leveraged the Kejetia redevelopment project to strategically site its office. He said MTN has become an invaluable partner in Kumasi’s development. He was grateful to MTN for the help they rendered the people of the region in terms of employment, education and information services.

He stated that the whole of the region is undergoing a rebranding and a new development paradigm to make it more relevant to the development needs of residents and the numerous travelers who pass through the region daily. He cited the internationalization of the Kumasi Airport as one of the major development projects.

He said there are plans to make Kumasi the Medical hub of West Africa and stated some sensitive surgeries that are only conducted at the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital and the use of Telemedical conferencing during operations. He therefore called on MTN to ensure the best of data services in order to support the increasing and sensitive use of data.

The Metropolitan Chief Executive also called on MTN to partner city authorities in making the city clean.

The Ashanti regional Police Command was also ably represented at the event. The Manhyia Divisional Police Commander; ACP Kwaku Buah was full of praise for MTN over their efforts at rooting out all forms of crime. He urged them never to grow weary of their partnership with the Police.
