Mobile Telecommunications Network (MTN Ghana) has held an event in Tamale to celebrate the 10th anniversary of operating and providing Mobile Money (MoMo) services to its customers in the country.

As part of the celebration, which took place on Thursday, MTN Ghana gave 40 of its lucky customers an amount of Gh¢ 250.00 each on their MoMo accounts.

The celebration was on the theme: "Celebrating 10 years of Making Lives Simple".

Mr Eli Hini, General Manager for Mobile Financial Services, MTN Ghana, said the first MoMo transaction was done on 25th September 2015 but within the first quarter of the year 2019, MTN had recorded about 411,000,000 MoMo transactions.

He said MTN MoMo had come to make life easier for the citizenry providing services and sources of employment to the youth as 124,000 people across the country were operating as MTN's agents.

Mr Hini said as part of the celebration, MTN Ghana, through its economic empowerment project, would be training 100 members of the Ghana Federation of Disability Organization as its agents with a start-up cash prize of GHC 4,000.00 each as seed money.

He said MTN Ghana would also give out 10 vehicles as well as some motorcycles, television sets among others to its lucky customers within the year.

Mr Hini said in this month of June, MTN was giving a 200 per cent bonus to customers who did transactions through MoMo.

He commended government and MTN’s partners supporting MTN MoMo since its introduction, urging all to register with MTN and make it their number one service provider in the country.

Dr Dinam Zoiku, Chief Superintendent of Police, Tamale Divisional Police Command, advised the public to be mindful of the MoMo fraudsters and their tricks by safeguarding their MoMo pin.

Mr Salifu Saeed, Northern Regional Minister, acknowledged the efforts of MTN Ghana in impacting positively on the socio-economic development of the country, such as providing jobs to the people in the north.

Mr Saeed commended MTN Ghana for bringing hope and making transactions easy for the citizenry by introducing MoMo urging them to do more.
