The Chief Executive Officer of MTN Ghana, Selorm Adadevoh, has said the telecommunication company intends engaging the National Communication Authority (NCA) and other stakeholders regarding the recent sanctions imposed on the company and three other telcos over their Quality of Service (QoS).
The NCA fined all four Mobile Network Operators (MNOs) – AirtelTigo, Glo, MTN, and Vodafone – a total of GHS34,065,000.00 for their non-compliance with various Quality of Service (QoS) requirements.
AirtelTigo (GHS11,635,000.00), Glo (GHS4,460,000.00), MTN (GHS9,080,000.00) and Vodafone (GHS8,890,000.00).
The NCA regularly undertakes QoS monitoring to determine whether the telcos comply with their licence conditions and to ensure that consumers receive the best quality service they have paid for.
Mr Adadevoh told the Journalists for Business Advocacy (JBA) group at MTN’s headquarters in Accra that: “We are planning to meet the NCA over the fine soon”.
“We will engage the NCA to enable us to get details of the fine”, Mr Adadevoh stressed.
He further noted that the issue of QoS is not only in the purview of the telcos, emphasising that: “There are also external factors which affect the quality of service”.
“We can’t control the external factors but we are trying our best to get them solved”, Mr Adadevoh added.
The President of JBA, Suleiman Mustapha, who led the team of journalists, said: “We have a good working relationship with MTN Ghana, which has led to the successful completion of a number of projects carried out by the association on behalf of the players in the telecom industry”.
Mr Mustapha said JBA has helped the telco to do advocacy work on fibre cuts, mobile money fraud, battery theft, and activities of MTN Ghana Foundation in the past.
