The Ministry of Local Government, Chieftaincy and Religious Affairs (MLGCRA) has inaugurated its Ministerial Advisory Board in line with Section 39 of the Civil Service Act, 1993 (PNDCL 327).
The Advisory Board is chaired by the Minister of Local Government, Ahmed Ibrahim.
Other members include the Deputy Minister, Madam Rita Naa Odoley Sowah; the Ministry’s Chief Director, Amin Abdul-Rahaman; Dr Audrey Smock-Amoah of the National Development Planning Commission and Professor Lord Mensah, Head of the Local Government Service.
The list also features Dr George Yaw Amoh of the National Peace Council, Owura Sarfo of the Church of Pentecost, Rev Dzifa Ami Gakpleazi of the Royal House Chapel International and Sheikh Abdul Rashid Odoi from the Office of the National Chief Imam.
Speaking at the inauguration on August 28, 2025, Ahmed Ibrahim highlighted the Ministry’s crucial role in coordinating decentralisation, strengthening local governance, managing chieftaincy and religious affairs and improving service delivery at the Metropolitan, Municipal and District levels.
He stressed that these responsibilities demanded not only technical expertise but also strong partnerships, mutual trust and visionary leadership.
“As we inaugurate this Board today, I am particularly hopeful that we will receive frank, objective and forward-looking advice to drive reforms in decentralisation and local governance,” he said.
The minister commended religious and traditional leaders for their role in promoting moral guidance, unity, and national development.
He assured members that the Ministry would provide the necessary resources and secretarial support to enable the Board to function effectively.

The Board is expected to provide strategic advice, enhance policy direction and promote participatory decision-making that reflects the aspirations of Ghanaians across all levels.
It will also serve as a platform for dialogue, collaboration and shared responsibility, ensuring the Ministry remains responsive and accountable in the delivery of its mandate.
