The Customs Division of the Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA) has destroyed large quantity of seized unwholesome and smuggled goods.

These included 13,776 cans of soft drinks and 5,038 packets of assorted cigarettes.

They were disposed of at the Kaase dumping site and present were officials from the Environmental Protection Agency, Trade and Industry Ministry and the security agencies.

The Ashanti Regional Commander of the Division, Mr. Paul Kwesi Ahiakpor, told journalists that these were intercepted between the months of June and July, based upon a tip off.

He spoke of their determination to continue to remain vigilant to track down smugglers and stop them from flooding expired and poor quality products.

It was in their own interest to give up on the illegal activity, he added.

Mr. Ahiakpor counseled consumers to be more careful about their health and ensure that goods they bought met quality standards.

They should not only refuse to patronize anything unwholesome but be bold to expose those dealing in such goods.
