Labour market survey on single spine begins

Government has begun moves to rationalize the single spine pay policy with productivity.

The first-ever Labour Market Premium Survey has been launched to kick start the process.

This is being conducted by the Ghana Statistical Service in collaboration with the Fair Wages and Salaries Commission.

Government Statistician, Dr Philomena Nyarko said the exercise will bring equity in pay administration and check the escalating wage bill.

“In each of the selected districts, we will select 10 beneficiaries for the interview, so in all we will have 510 beneficiary institutions which will be covered in this survey. You should note here that the survey will only cover jobs that have been created as a result of government programs and intervention and not any indirect or secondary level job created from these programs.”

Chief Executive of the Fair Wages and Salaries Commission, George Smith Graham, for his part said the labour market premium will help government to attract and retain skilled personnel in the public sector.
