The Deputy Minister of Finance-Designate, Thomas Ampem Nyarko, is currently before Parliament’s Appointments Committee.

Thomas Ampem Nyarko is a prominent member of the National Democratic Congress (NDC). He has served as the Member of Parliament (MP) for the Asuogyaman Constituency in the Eastern Region of Ghana since January 2017, representing the constituency in the Sixth, Seventh, Eighth, and current Ninth Parliaments of the Fourth Republic.

Born on February 14, 1978, in Anum, Eastern Region, he has a strong educational background. He holds a Bachelor of Arts in Economics and Geography from Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) and an MSc in Finance from Virginia Commonwealth University in the United States. He also earned a teacher’s certificate from Peki Training College.

Before his parliamentary career, Ampem Nyarko worked as a teacher in both Ghana and the U.S., a part-time lecturer, and the Director of Finance for the Inter-Ministerial Coordinating Committee on Decentralization Secretariat.

He has also served as the District Chief Executive for Asuogyaman. In Parliament, he has played an active role in financial oversight, notably as Chairman of the Budget Committee in the Eighth Parliament and as a member of the Finance Committee from 2020 to 2024.

If approved by Parliament, he will serve as deputy to Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson.
