Sekyedumase to benefit from water project- DCE

Ejura (Ash), Jan 23, GNA- Sekyedumase township is to benefit from a 1.3 billion-cedis water extension project, Madam Elizabeth Owusu, Ejura-Sekyedumase District Chief Executive, has said.

She said the project, which would begin early this year would be executed under the Promotion of District Capitals Project (PRODICAP). Speaking at the people's forum at Ejura on Monday, Madam Owusu said, the project would be funded by KFW of Germany, with the district assembly contributing 128.8 million cedis as counterpart funding.

She said about 4,000 women had received various financial assistance totalling 3.7 billion cedis and said the package formed part of government's poverty reduction programme.

The assistance, the DCE pointed out, was to enable the beneficiaries to improve upon their economic base by expanding their farms through standard method of farming.

Madam Owusu said rice production will commence in the district and that land preparation towards it would start soon alongside the supply of improved seeds and fertiliser.

She said the African Development Bank (AfDB) would assist livestock farmers in the district by way of credit to enable them to feed their livestock well for increased production.

Since the district was prone to bushfires, the DCE warned the people against using fire indiscriminately on the farms and in the bush since the fires posed a threat to the national food security.

Madam Owusu said it was illegal for anybody to burn the bush and indicated that anybody who would be caught doing so would face the full rigours of the law.

Mr Maxwell Kofi Jumah, Kumasi Metropolitan Chief Executive, who was at Ejura to lend support to Madam Owusu, said the era of state-owned enterprises was over.

He, therefore, urged Ghanaians to team up and establish their own enterprises in line with global trends of doing business. Mr Jumah told the people that the government had delivered in fulfilment of its campaign promises in view of the numerous projects executed in the various districts.
