Kufuor meets top Barclays Bank official

Accra, March 21, GNA - President John Agyekum Kufuor on Tuesday granted audience to Mr Andrew Bainbridge, Managing Director of the Barclays Bank in charge of Africa and Indian Ocean, at the Castle, Osu. His visit was to reinforce the Bank's commitment to partner the Government to carry through the establishment of an International Financial Services Centre in Ghana.

Barclays is already in discussion with the Social Security and National Insurance Trust (SSNIT) to support the provision of housing mortgage.

President Kufuor said as a stakeholder and partner, the Government would want to see the Bank at the forefront of developmental projects in the country, through corporate financing.

He said they were determined to work to ensure that a firm partnership between the Government and Barclays moved at a greater speed to bring to reality the establishment of the International Financial Services Centre.

Mr Bainbridge said they were encouraged by the growth and management of the economy and political stability.

Barclays is not only supporting the Ministry of Tourism and Modernisation of the Capital City to source funding but also assisting with promotion of tourism under the "Miles-Building" programme. 21 March 06
