Rainstorm destroys property, school buildings in Asikuma-Odoben-Brakwa

Breman-Jambra C/R), March 20, GNA- More than 127 houses, including five school buildings were destroyed in four towns in the Asikuma-Odoben-Brakwa district of the Central Region when a severe rainstorm hit the area last Thursday night.

This came to light when the Mr. Emmanuel Adjei Domson, District Chief Executive, led the regional Minister Nana Ato Arthur and the regional NADMO officer, Nana Adjei Benin and some members of the Regional Security Council to inspect the extend of damage done to the affected towns namely, Brakwa-Benin, Ochiso, Odoben and Brakwa-Jambra. At Jambra, the team discovered that the roofs of the Methodist JSS and the Anglican and Catholic Kindergartens have been completely ripped off while a large number of books and other stationery were also destroyed resulting in Classes being held under trees.

The roofing of the Catholic Primary and JSS buildings at Benin were also ripped off completely with part of the buildings damaged. Nana Arthur told the teachers and pupils that the RCC shares their difficulties and would ensure that the buildings were re-roofed as soon as practicable to forestall disruptions of classes.

Also at Odoben, the Minister inspected a number of houses which were destroyed by the storm and gave the assurance that the regional NADMO office would liaise with the district assembly on how best to assist the affected schools and individuals.
