The Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) has conferred an Honorary Doctor of Science (DSc) degree on Dr Ben K.D. Asante, former Chief Executive Officer of Ghana Gas.
He was recognised for his exceptional dedication to advancing the engineering profession, his contributions to academia, and his selfless service to Ghana and humanity.
The ceremony, held during the climax of the University’s 59th Congregation on Saturday, November 29, 2025, in Kumasi, was graced by Vice President Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang, Chancellor of KNUST and Asantehene Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, Ashanti Regional Minister, Dr Frank Amoakohene, as well as captains of industry, academia, and other dignitaries.

In her remarks, Vice Chancellor Professor, Rita Akosua Dickson, noted that the honour was not only a celebration of an accomplished alumnus but also a reaffirmation of KNUST’s commitment to driving national transformation through academic excellence, technology, and strategic partnerships.
Dr Asante’s career spans decades of service to globally respected institutions, including the World Bank and the Asian Development Bank, where he provided engineering expertise, project management, and technical support.
In October 2023, he was invited by the United Nations to present on Africa’s energy transition options at UNCTAD’s Experts Forum on Energy, underscoring his international influence.
Ghana has also benefited immensely from his expertise. As technical director of the country’s first Gas Infrastructure Project, Dr Asante oversaw engineering, construction, and operations.
He is credited with developing Ghana’s Gas Infrastructure Master Plan in collaboration with the Energy Commission and the Ministry of Energy, a blueprint that continues to guide the sector’s growth.
