KIA CEPS rewarded for exceeding target

Accra, Aug. 7, GNA - The Kotoka International Airport (KIA) sector of the Customs, Excise and Preventive Service (CEPS) has been rewarded by the Ghana Community Network Systems (GCNET) for exceeding its half-year target for 2007 by three per cent.

Out of a target of 440 billion cedis for the period ranging from January to June 2007, the sector collected 451 billion cedis, thus exceeding the target by 11 billion cedis.

Mr Emmanuel Darko, Executive Director of GCNET, who presented computers and accessories to the KIA sector of CEPS for internet connectivity as their reward, promised to meet more needs of the sector if they exceeded their target for this year.

He said GCNET would sponsor the Commander of any sector that exceeded this year's target to any country of their choice. Mr Emmanuel Doku, Commissioner of CEPS, urged officers to work harder this year to meet the year's target.

He urged officers to pay particular attention to exemptions, since dutiable goods could be mixed with them to evade duty.

The Commissioner commended the management of GCNET for recognizing the outstanding performance of CEPS, describing the co-operation between CEPS and GCNET as a good example of public-private sector partnership. Mr John Oklu, KIA Sector Commander of CEPS, who received the items on behalf of the sector, attributed the good performance of the staff to the dedication of officers, good team work, better enforcement of rules and regulations as well as welfare packages and the supply of logistics by the CEPS Management.
