Jumia Travel introduces domestic and international flight services

Jumia Travel has taken a step toward improving services and products reach by introducing domestic and international flights services in addition to its hotel booking services for travellers.

The company known widely to be number one in hotel booking has partnered with major airlines including Kenya Airways, Rwandair Express, Qatar Airways, Emirates, Ethiopian Airlines, South African Airways, KLM, Fly Dubai, Turkish Airlines, Air Arabia, and Air Seychelles among others to bring ease to the airline industries on the continent.

The Chief Executive Officer of Jumia Travel, Paul Midy said the launch of the product was a new step aimed at becoming the “leading African Online Travel Agency, providing best customer experience for the travelers. It is also part of our broader program to create a one stop shop providing accommodation, packages, and flights all on the same platform, in a bid to streamline travel in Africa”.

According to Mr. Paul Midy, “Africa portrays massive potential for growth in the coming years, especially due to the increasing demand from the rising middle class and growing African economies.”

He added, “Jumia Travel aims at capitalizing on a market that is progressively driving hospitality demand in the continent. With the international Air Transport Association, (IATA) predicting a strong growth of 4.8% in passenger numbers in Africa in the next 5 years, this confirms our strategic commitment to provide infinite travel solutions to travellers.”



Speaking at a press conference to announce the unveiling of flights services for travelers, the Managing Director of Jumia Travel, Claire Staal, said there was the need for the company to introduce flight services because it would enable travellers to buy their air tickets and book hotels on same platform.

She said in order to enhance tourism in Ghana, Jumia has created packages on its website to help tourists coming into the country to get their destinations without having trouble and to also boost domestic tourism.

“We decided to create packages on our website so that people can get to tourist destinations. We realized that a lot of Ghanaians don’t know their own tourist destinations yet and they’ve not visited them yet. So we try to combine tourist destinations with accommodations, create nice discounted package so that you can book and visit those places,” she noted.



The Manager of Special Events at the Ghana Tourism Authority, Mr. Ben Anane Nsiah, commended Jumia Travel for taking up the challenge to help improve Ghana’s tourism sector through its attractive flight and hotel booking services.

Apart from being able to buy ticket and book hotel online with ease, Mr. Anane Nsiah said the service would help the tourism and Airline businesses strive and the country’s vision of receiving four million (4m) arrivals by 2027 will be met.

“The impact of 4m visitors annually into the country is big. If we assume for example that an average tourist spends say $2000… and when we have 4m people, that’s big money – like eight billion dollars ($8b). That’s more than the oil we have now, that’s more than the cocoa we have,” he noted.
