The Minister of Energy and Green Transition, Dr John Abdulai Jinapor, has inaugurated the newly appointed Board of Directors of the Ghana National Petroleum Corporation (GNPC).
He called on them to rejuvenate the organisation and drive it towards a more sustainable and impactful future.
Speaking at a ceremony on July 1, 2025, the minister described the corporation as a key national asset essential for economic growth and ensuring energy stability.
“GNPC is more than just a typical state enterprise. It stands as the cornerstone of Ghana’s upstream petroleum industry. Its sound investments and collaborations make a direct contribution to national progress and energy reliability,” he said.
He urged the new board to demonstrate bold and visionary leadership, capable of addressing the evolving challenges within the petroleum sector.
John Jinapor also stressed the importance of transparency, accountability, and strategic direction in ensuring GNPC not only overcomes current hurdles but also takes advantage of new opportunities.
The energy minister entreated the new GNPC board to provide strategic leadership and support efforts to expand operations, particularly through Explorco.
He announced plans to review the outdated GNPC Act to reflect current industry trends, noting concerns over declining oil production and reserves.
Despite challenges, he sees potential from global partners and believes this is a key moment to reposition GNPC.
The board chairman, Professor Oteng-Adjei, thanked the President for the appointment and promised a results-oriented approach.
