Japan to assist in construction of bridges

The governments of Ghana and Japan signed a 8.4 million dollar agreement for the construction of 18 small and medium size bridges in six regions of Ghana.

The regions are the Ashanti, Volta, Eastern, Brong-Ahafo, Northern and Upper West.

Mr Kwadwo Adjei-Darko, Minister of Roads and Transport signed for Ghana while the Mr. Minoru Miura, Vice President of Katahira and Engineers International, consultants to the project signed on behalf of the Japanese government.

Mr Adjei- Darko expressed gratitude to Japan for her assistance, especially in the road sector and appealed to her to expedite action on arrangements for the Mallam-Yamoransa and Achimota- Anyinam roads.

The construction of the bridges will facilitate assess to marketing centres by farmers with their produce and thereby encourage increased food production and promote other economic activities.

The new agreement is the third in a series of small and medium bridges programme supported by the Japanese government.
