Dr Paa Kwesi Nduom, President of Groupe Nduom (GN), has called on Ghanaians to invest and support the creation of local jobs to help fix the high rate of unemployment in the country.
He said investing and supporting local businesses would ensure that financial assets remained in the local economy for swift economic growth and development.
Dr Nduom said this at the commissioning of an ultra-modern office complex of the GN at Mankessim in the Mfantseman Municipality of the Central region.
The edifice which would serve as the Regional Office of Groupe Nduom would house eight companies of the Groupe, including GN Bank, GN Life Assurance, Gold Coast Fund Management and Pentrust.
Others include First Digital Television in the media, Fresh Pak and GN Electronics in the manufacturing sector and Qualtek in technology.
The building was constructed by Yorke Properties, one of the companies that constitute Groupe Nduom.
He said most nations in the world with buoyant economies hinged their successes on indigenous business, citing England and the United States as classic examples.
Dr Nduom, who is also the Presidential Canidate and Founder of the Progressive People's Party (PPP), said local business like banks, when supported to remain formidable and competitive on the financial market, and they could support government and entrepreneurs in times of crisis.
“When the American Government was in financial crisis, it was an indigenous bank that came to its rescue,” he said.
Dr Nduom said the commissioning of the office in the area formed part of Groupe Nduom’s investment commitment in areas considered among the poorest in the country.
He said the GN Bank would be listed on the Stock Exchange next year for interested persons to buy shares and become equity partners.
He also called on indigenes of the Central Region to take advantage and enroll at the Nduom University to be opened soon in the region.
Mr Adam Issah, the General Manager of GN Bank, said the Bank had 252 branches across the country with 26 of them in the Central Region rendering various services and products including, Money Transfer, Kiddy Account, Life Insurance Policy and future education plan known as “Wo Dakye Account”.
He said GN bank was the largest indigenous bank and a bank for the ordinary Ghanaian and anyone could open a new account at the Bank with just 50 pesewas and earn nine per cent interest per month.
Osagyefo Amanfo Adu VI, Paramount chief of Mankessim Traditional Area, cautioned the youth against the desire to get rich overnight but be patient as they worked towards improving their lot.
He expressed gratitude to Dr Nduom for his continued investment in the Central Region and asked the people to pray for the success of his businesses.
Present at the function were other senior management personnel of GN, including Senior Vice President, Mrs Yvonne Nduom.
