Internal regulatory framework designed to control susu collectors

Berekum (B/A), Nov. 13, GNA - The Ghana Cooperative Susu Collectors Association has designed an internal regulatory framework to control the activities of susu collectors in the country, Mr Vincent King Arthur Biney, General Secretary has announced.

He explained that the measure would enable the Susu collectors to meet the competition and the challenges in the micro-financing industry. Mr Biney told the Ghana News Agency at the end of the Association's 6th Annual General Meeting at Berekum in Brong Ahafo that it had embarked on educational campaigns at Tema, Agona District, Brong-Ahafo and Volta Region to build the confidence of the public in susu collectors.

The Association has also taken the initiative to register all susu collectors while gradually ensuring the development of its regional and district offices to promote the growth of the Association. Mr Biney said the Association had organised training sessions for its clients on its business development strategies and how they could manage and generate funds internally to discourage them from relying on the Association.

He said the Association was in the process of developing a five-year business plan with sponsorship from the World Bank under the Rural Financial Services Project. Mr Biney further said the Association mobilised 354 billion cedis from clients as at the end of last year and had disbursed 1.5 billion to clients.

Mr Aboagye Manu, National President of the Association, expressed regret about members' lackadaisical approach to the payment of dues and called for a change in such attitude.
