Inflation is now at 14.3%

Inflation figures released by the Statistical Services showed a further marginal decline in year on year inflation to 14.3 per cent in May from 14.9 per cent in April.

The monthly increase in inflation for May was 1.3 per cent compared to 1.5 per cent in the previous month. The highest average monthly price increases were recorded in the following sub-groups of the Consumer Price Index: Food and Beverages (2.6 per cent), Household goods (1.7 per cent) and Alcohol and Tobacco (1.6 per cent).

Commodities that contributed to the increase in the National Index include plantain, smoked herrings, tomatoes, yam, garden eggs and dry pepper.
