ICAG commends government in fighting corruption

Mrs Angela Peasah, President of the Institute of Chartered Accountant of Ghana, has affirmed the institute’s commitment in supporting government to tighten the system and expose corrupt practices in the country.

Mrs Peasah commended government for implementing the Ghana Integrated Financial Management Information System (GIFMIS), which has helped automate government accounting processes instead of the current manual system, which is unfriendly.

Mrs Peasah said this on Monday at a press briefing to launch the Institute’s Accountants’ week celebration in Accra.

She said the institute celebrated its 50 years of existence in April 2013 and currently has a membership of 3,500, serving in public practice as auditors, lecturers, finance executives and entrepreneurs.

The theme for the celebration is “The Role of a Chartered Accountant in Ghana: 50 years and beyond”.

She said the institute has worked hard to put Ghana on the professional Accountancy map globally and has earned membership of international organizations such as the Association of Accountancy Bodies in West Africa and the Pan African Federation of Accountants.

Mrs Peasah said as part of activities to mark the celebration, the institute will organize a students’ forum on Tuesday May 13, at the Osu Presbyterian Church Hall at 10.00 hours.

She said on Thursday, May 15, there will be a conference on the topics “Restoring our Nation’s Economy: The role of Chartered Accountants and Sustainable National Management-Options for Ghana followed by an anniversary awards on May 17, at the Accra International Conference.
