‘I want my bank back’ – Capital Bank CEO

William Ato Esien, Founder and CEO of the defunct Capital Bank, has said he has sued the Bank of Ghana (BoG) for collapsing his bank.

He said he did no wrong, however, the bank was folded up by the regulator.

Mr Esien told Paul Adom Otchere on the Good Evening Ghana programme on Metro TV on Thursday 26th September, 2019 that: I have sued the Bank of Ghana. I want my bank because hard work must be rewarded.”

Capital bank was one of the local banks that went under during the recapitalisation exercise undertaken by the BoG.

Mr Esien denied misusing the bank’s funds.

He explained that after his bank was collapsed there were reports in a section of the Ghanaian media that he had squandered moneys provided by the BoG as liquidity support.

But he said : “I never chopped a dime.”

He asked: “It’s my own bank so how can I steal from my own bank, is that possible?”
