I’ll transform MMT – Acting MD

Acting Managing Director (MD) of the Metro Mass Transit Limited Brigadier General (retired) Ishmael Ben Quartey says though he does not know how long he will stay in his new position, he is committed to transforming the operations of the transport company.

“In transforming the operations of this company, we have to look at efficiency; we need to look at reliability; we need to look at affordability, and then make sure that we make MMTL the first transport organisation in Ghana.”

The retired army officer was addressing workers on Monday, January 19 when he met them for the first time since his appointment by President John Dramani Mahama.

Former MD Noble John Appiah together with his deputy, John Awuku Dzuazah, was asked to step aside for investigations into allegations by the workers to be conducted.

A statement signed by Chief of Staff Prosper Bani last Thursday dissolved the board of the company aside the order to the MD and his deputy.

In the company of Minister of Transport Dzifa Aku Attivor, Brigadier General Quartey also expressed hope that the investigation into the allegations will be completed soon.

“Nobody knows how long this investigation is going to take,” he noted.

“We will hope that it will be finished soon but then I am coming with a vision to transform the operations of this company.”

The workers embarked on a six-hour demonstration last Monday, accusing the interdicted Deputy MD Dzuazah and Board Chairman Osabarima Ansah Sasraku III of being behind the strange disappearance of 12 buses from the company’s fleet in the Ashanti Region.

A two-week ultimatum was given by the workers for the truth to be unraveled.
