Huge global outage affects Snapchat, Amazon and others

A major outage affecting Amazon Web Services (AWS) has disrupted several popular websites and online platforms globally, including Snapchat, Facebook, and Fortnite, CNN reports.

According to Downdetector, a website that tracks internet service disruptions, the list of affected platforms continues to grow rapidly.

Other major companies, such as cryptocurrency exchange Coinbase and AI firm Perplexity, have also reported service interruptions.

Amazon confirmed the incident in a statement, noting that its engineering teams have identified the root cause of the problem and are working to restore normal operations as quickly as possible.

“We have identified the root cause and are working to accelerate recovery,” AWS said, as quoted by cnn.com.

The scale of the disruption highlights the global reliance on Amazon’s cloud computing infrastructure, which supports a wide range of websites, apps, and digital services across various industries, including social media, gaming, financial technology, and Artificial Intelligence.

As of now, AWS says recovery efforts are ongoing, with updates expected as systems come back online.
