The Minister for Communications, Digital Technology, and Innovation, Samuel Nartey George, has announced that a stakeholder committee will finalise a price reduction structure for MultiChoice Ghana’s DStv bouquets within 14 days, by September 21, 2025.

Speaking at a press conference on Friday, September 5, 2025, the Minister revealed that MultiChoice Ghana, facing a GH¢10,000 daily fine since August 14, 2025, and a 30-day suspension notice effective August 7, 2025, for non-compliance with pricing concerns, has now agreed to address the issue.

“They have finally accepted that there will be a reduction. Now, they want us to discuss the level of reduction,” Sam George stated.

To expedite the process, a committee comprising representatives from the Ministry, the National Communications Authority (NCA), MultiChoice Ghana, and MultiChoice Africa has been established, with the Minister personally chairing it.

He announced that while DStv had requested 30 days for the engagement, he has mandated a 14-day period, inclusive of weekends, to conclude discussions.

“I believe, as Minister, that we do not need 30 days. Fourteen days is sufficient for us to reach this decision,” he emphasised.

The Minister also addressed the ongoing acquisition of MultiChoice Africa by Canal Plus Group, expected to conclude by the end of September.

He revealed that he has secured Canal Plus’s commitment to honour the committee’s agreements and prioritise Ghana for further price reduction talks after the acquisition.

“Ghana will be the first country they visit to have conversations on possible further reductions,” he assured.

In a commitment to transparency, Sam George promised that the committee’s report would be made public by September 21, 2025.

He added, however, that the NCA will continue to enforce the GH¢10,000 daily fine for the 24 days MultiChoice failed to provide the required information, amounting to GH¢240,000.

Responding to questions from journalists, the Minister stressed that the government still maintains its demand for a 30% reduction by MultiChoice.
