HFC Bank donates over GH¢20,000 for making journals

Kumasi, April 28, GNA - The HFC Bank last Thursday donated GH¢20,535 to the College of Art and Social Sciences (CASS) of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST} towards the publication of the maiden edition of the college's journal and a collection of papers presented during intra-college seminars.

The publication is titled, "the Journal of Arts and Humanities." Making the presentation, Mr. Ebenezer Kwabena Asante, the Kumasi Branch Manager of the HFC Bank, said there has been good collaboration between the bank and CASS over the years, adding that the donation followed CASS' recent request. The Manager said the bank would do everything possible to support the training of high calibre personnel to enhance the development of the nation's manpower requirements, adding that, the bank would soon commence the construction of a GH¢1,800,000 shopping mall at the commercial area of KNUST campus to support the development of the university.

Prof. Dr. Dr. Daniel Bour, Provost of CASS, who received the gift, commended HFC bank for the support in the area of logistics, citing the provision of an LCD projector and a computer to the college in 2007. The Provost said the missions and visions of the academia could not be met without the collaboration of industry, hence CASS in 2005 established a liaison office to link up with industry to collaborate to support teaching and learning. He explained that since infrastructure alone could not be used to judge the performance of institutions, they decided to produce a journal to showcase their works.

The Provost, therefore, appealed to industries to help improve upon the obsolete infrastructure at the Faculties of Fine and Industrial Art which was put up in 1952 when the University was established.
