Government urged to prioritize improvement of ICT industry

Baffour Nyantakyi Tutu Boateng, the Krontihene of the New Juaben Traditional Area, has called on government to improve upon the infrastructure and policies to promote Information Communication and Technology (ICT) in the country.

He said the telecommunications industry continues to be a key contributor to Ghana’s economy and the expansion of 4G technology nationwide will continue to unlock and accelerate the growth of information and knowledge based society, whiles driving economic growth.

The Krontihene said this at the official launch of the Eastern Regional Initial Public Offer (IPO) of MTN shares at Koforidua.

The IPO is a platform that seeks to float 35 per cent shares of the company to give Ghanaians the opportunity to own shares of MTN.

Under the IPO, an MTN share costs 75 pesewes and is sold in multiples of 10. Baffour Nyantakyi said the launch of the IPO offers opportunity to Ghanaians to share in the risks and successes of the company.

Mr Samuel Addo, the General Manager for Enterprise Business at MTN, expressed the hope that the transaction would have a positive impact on the local market including the Eastern Region.

He said the company’s focus is investing in the business, high growth opportunities and delivering attractive financial returns and paying 60 per cent of profit to shareholders.

He said in the Eastern region, 196- 3G and 45- 4G sites were built at the end of last year and that this year, an additional 46- 3G and four 4G sites are being deployed.
