Government to equip utility providers

Accra, Nov. 28, GNA - Government has assured utility providers that plans are underway to provide them with the equipment to enhance their performance.

Mr. Felix Owusu-Adjapong, Minister of Energy, gave the assurance when he visited the Volta River Authority (VRA), Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) and the Ghana Grid Company (GRIDCO) sub-stations in Accra to ascertain the causes of recent power fluctuations experienced by consumers.

The Minister also used the occasion to inaugurate several electrification projects within the Accra Metropolis. At some stations, the Minister was told that the equipment was outmoded rendering their ability to provide the needed amount of power ineffectively.

Mr Owusu-Adjapong said government was pursuing a prudent energy policy, which was aimed at making power supply available at all times for both domestic and industrial use. He urged the public to remain calm as efforts were made to rectify the problems.

At the Achimota sub-station, it was revealed that there was fire at the transmission station as a result of activities of a farmer, who set fire to weeds in his farm, thus affecting power supply.
