The Minister for Energy and Green Transition, Dr John Jinapor, has disclosed that the government has terminated over 202 supply contracts awarded under the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG), as part of efforts to reduce liabilities and enhance cost and inventory control.

According to the sector minister, the termination approved by the ECG Board, followed a comprehensive review of 347 contracts in which suppliers had failed to deliver on schedule, excluding those with goods currently delayed at the ports.

“In total, 202 contracts have been terminated with the approval of the ECG Board. These contracts were valued at approximately US$227.6 million, £1.17 million, and €4.08 million,” John Jinapor announced during the second edition of the Government Accountability Series on July 16, 2025.

He added that the remaining 145 contracts are under further review and may also face termination, depending on the findings of the ongoing assessment.

The review and contract cancellations are part of a broader accountability drive aimed at curbing waste, strengthening procurement oversight, and ensuring value for money within the power utility sector.
