Government shows commitment to growth of private sector

Kumasi, Sept. 3, GNA - Madam Patricia Appiagyei, Deputy Ashanti Regional Minister has said that the Government is committed to support the development of the private sector through a number of interventions. She said Government's support had been demonstrated through a number interventions and the President's initiative for the garment sector.

Madam Appiagyei made the statement at the launching of the Garments, Jewels, Leather, Textiles and Accessories (GAJELTA) Trade Fair in Kumasi on Friday.

The 10-day Fair organised by Driwald Consult, a Marketing and Communication Firm, has 90 local and foreign companies participating. It is under the theme "Petty trading, the cornerstone for Ghana's economic development".

"The Presidential initiative for the Garments sector and the support Government has provided to enable members of the private sector to be part of the broader international market, testify to the importance attached to this industry", Madam Appiagyei said.

She urged the private sector to take advantage of the interventions to expand their businesses both locally and internationally.

Mr. Walter Djokoto, Chief Executive Officer of Driwald Consult, said even though security had been guaranteed at the premises of the Fair, Exhibitors were advised to keep an eye on their wares and to report suspicious characters to the police or the organisers.
