Government loans would be granted to groups - Adjei-Boateng

Koforidua, May 23, GNA - Nana Kwasi Adjei-Boateng, New Juaben Municipal Chief Executive, on Friday said Government loans and credit facilities would be granted to groups within the municipality. He therefore urged the people to form co-operatives to access credit facilities to finance their businesses.

Speaking at the seventh Eastern Regional People's Assembly in Koforidua, Nana Adjei-Boateng expressed concern about the attitude of some people who benefited from credit facilities but refused to pay back.

He said "Government is not Father Christmas to dole out money without recouping it."

Nana Adjei-Boateng said achievements of the assembly included 22 billion Ghana cedis expenditure to turn Oyoko Methodist Senior High School into a model school.

Others were, construction of a 4.9 billion Ghana cedis multi-purpose library in Koforidua, 4.6 million dollars street lights in Koforidua and provision of health centres in some communities. Nana Adjei-Boateng advised drivers to drive carefully to prevent further damage to electricity poles in the municipality.

He announced that construction works on a project to provide potable water from the Volta River had been completed and by next year the perennial water problem of the municipality would be solved. Mr Kwadwo Afram Asiedu, Eastern Regional Minister, appealed to Ghanaians to support government policies and programmes.

He said though some of the policies might seem harsh now, they were necessary to ensure a better future for the country. Mr Afram Asiedu appealed to all and sundry to bear with the government in these trying moments and said the present harsh conditions was not peculiar to Ghana, but government was determined to help alleviate the plight of the people.
