The Minister of Lands and Natural Resources, Emmanuel Armah-Kofi Buah, has inaugurated a Cooperative Mining Project at Teleku-Bokazo in the Ellembelle District, designed to benefit both Teleku-Bokazo and the neighbouring community of Anwia.

The initiative forms part of the Responsible Cooperative Mining and Skills Development Programme (rCOMSDEP).

The project, launched in partnership with the Minerals Commission, the Ellembelle District Assembly, and traditional authorities, is intended to formalise small-scale mining, create jobs, and promote environmentally responsible practices.

Speaking at the inaugural ceremony, Armah-Kofi Buah who is also the MP for Ellembelle Constituency, stated that, "This project marks a new chapter for mining communities in Ghana. By working together as cooperatives, our people will not only create jobs and wealth but also protect the environment for generations to come".

He warned galamseyers to stay away from the illegal act and join the cooperative mining program.

On his part, the District Chief Executive (DCE) for the area, Joseph Agyekum, described the event as a turning point for the district:

"Cooperative mining will bring order, opportunity, and dignity to our young people. It is our collective responsibility to ensure that this initiative succeeds", he stated.

The Chief of Teleku-Bokazo, Nana Afful Kwaw II, also welcomed the initiative by stating, "This cooperative gives our youth the structure, skills, and protection they deserve. It is our hope that this project will bring prosperity, unity, and lasting development to Teleku-Bokazo and Anwia."

The Chief of Anwia shared similar sentiments, stressing the importance of unity between the two communities in harnessing the benefits of cooperative mining.

The inauguration forms part of the government’s broader plan to roll out cooperative mining schemes across mining communities in Ghana, ensuring that natural resource exploitation supports community development, safety, and sustainability.
