Government clears Nigeria Gas debt

Earlier N-Gas debt made Ghana lose 600 megawatts of power Earlier N-Gas debt made Ghana lose 600 megawatts of power

President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has revealed that his government has paid the debt Ghana owed Nigeria Gas (N-Gas). Ghana owed N-Gas to the tune of US$60 million, according to the president.

It is recalled that during the erstwhile John Mahama administration, Nigeria cut gas supply to Ghana over several millions of dollars’ indebtedness.

The development led to Ghana losing about 600 megawatts of power from the country’s national electricity grid.

The situation worsened the energy situation in Ghana because most of the thermal plants in the country ran on gas.

During the electioneering period, the then candidate of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) promised to pay off the debt as a way of dealing with the energy situation.

Accordingly, he has indicated that his government has paid off the debt.

He tweeted on Thursday April 13: “Keeping my promise, Ghana’s debt to Nigeria Gas, US$60million paid.”
