Gov’t to increase investment in agric – Amissah-Arthur

Vice President Kwesi Amissah-Arthur has stated that the NDC government would continue to increase public investment in the Agricultural Sub-sector.

Mr. Amissah-Arthur made the statement at the 32nd National Farmers Day Celebration at Walewale in the Northern Region. Under the theme "Agriculture: A Business Responsibility to Economic Growth.

According to Mr. Amissah-Arthur, the theme for the celebration was appropriate and is in line with government’s agenda for the agricultural industry because from year to year it increases gross domestic product and creates more jobs, especially attracting the youth into farming.

The Vice President said agriculture is the main stay of the economy of the country and that government would add value to agricultural produce to attract more foreign exchange.

He said government would reduce the risk confronting farmers, also as part of government intervention to help farmers they have invested in Cocoa roads and other road sectors, agricultural mechanisation, irrigation and the fisheries, livestock and many other incentives that government is doing to help the agricultural Sector.

Mr. Amissah-Arthur however, congratulated all farmers in the country and wished them more successes the years ahead.

The awards were presented to the farmers; the regional best Farmer went to Mr Nakoja Natumbi.

He was given a Tricycle, water pumping machine among others. The ceremony was attended by Minister of Gender, children and social protection Nana Oye Lithur, Northern Regional Minister Abdalah Abubakari and the Overlord of the Mamprugu Traditional Area Naa Buhugu Mahami Abdulai.
