Gold Fields Ghana gets new head

Accra, March 31, GNA - Gold Fields Limited has appointed Mr Alan Ashworth as Vice President and Head of Operations in Ghana with effect from March 1, 2006.

He replaces Breden Walker, who would be assuming a new of Executive Vice President and Head of South African Operations, after a four-year duty tour in Ghana.

A statement signed by the Chief Executive Officer of Gold Fields Limited, Ian Cockerill, said until the appointment, Mr Ashworth was the Head of Operations for De Beers Consolidated Mines in which role he had responsibility for the South African operations of De Beers. Alan joined De Beers in 1978 and brings to this new position a considerable experience of mining operations in South Africa, Namibia, Botswana and Tanzania.

He has also worked in Russia and Guinea, West Africa. Alan has specific interest in safety and sustainable development and his commitment was recognized when he was elected International Safety Personality of the Year in 1993.

The statement welcomed Alan and Stephne to Gold Fields in general and Gold Fields Ghana in particular and wished them a long and happy career with the Group.
