Glo Mobile has announced the introduction of Campus Booster, a new product designed to bring more data for students, workers, visitors and other residents of higher institutions across Ghana.

This product, which is available to both prepaid and postpaid subscribers, will enable anyone within the premises of institutions of higher learning in the country have unhindered access to browse and download within their campuses with 50 percent extra data on every data purchase.

According to a statement from the company, the Glo Campus Booster is “designed to aid the pursuit of academic activities and social networking among students, staff and visitors of tertiary institutions across the country and will help to support and improve education standards, create a reservoir for intellectual wealth for students, and provide easier access to information on research topics and thesis writing”.

The Glo Campus Booster is a special data plan that allows students, workers and other campus residents and visitors to get 50 percent more data value whenever they subscribe for data on their Glo lines on campuses. While the offer can be subscribed at any location within Ghana, it can only be enjoyed within the premises of the 81 post-secondary and tertiary institutions already covered in the first phase of the coverage map.

For example, under the Glo Campus Booster, a GHC1 data recharge will guarantee a subscriber 75MB of data which is 50 percent more than the 50MB of data a subscriber outside the campus would normally get to browse with. In the same vein, a recharge of GHC2 will give 150MB of data on campus, percent more than the 100MB a subscriber in town would get.

A GHC5 data subscription also attracts a 50 percent extra data, delivering 600MB instead of 400MB. Similarly, GHC10 subscription in the campus zone gets the subscriber 1225MB, which is 425MB more than what the average subscriber outside the campus would get.

For the subscriber who goes for the GHC15 data plan, the data value is 2250MB, which is 750MB more than the traditional 1500MB data value for those outside the campus. These extras will only apply if used within a campus environment but will revert to the normal data rate once the subscriber moves to a non-tertiary institution area.

To subscribe for the Glo Campus Data Booster, a subscriber needs to dial the code *555# and select any of the Campus Booster plans under internet packs or text MENU as SMS to the short code 127 and select option 4 for campus booster plans.

Glo has also introduced another value added service, Facebook on USSD, to enable users of feature phones and smart phones connect to Facebook, irrespective of device & internet.

The service enables them to post status, access newsfeed, chat, comment, etc on Facebook without having to open the application. This will enable users of feature phone to continue to keep abreast of relationship with their friends on Facebook. Users of smart phones can also use it if they do not have a subsisting data subscription.
