Ghana’s first gold expo to kick off in March

The future strategic options to drive responsible mining and sustainable economic growth in the gold industry will require multiple approaches and new technologies.

The upcoming Ghana Gold expo 2020, scheduled from the 8-10th March 2020 seeks to collaborate with consumers, downstream supply chain and investors to address key environmental issues in conformance with Responsible Gold Mining.

Mercury is considered one of the top ten chemicals that threatens human health however, stakeholders have raised key questions regarding the cost implications and the implementation of alternative technologies since the Minamata convention to control the harmful effect of mercury entered into force I’m August 2017.

To provide a lasting solution to this problem, The Western Regional Coordinating Council in partnership with Aurum Monaco, organisers of the Ghana Gold Expo, is working with government leaders and industry experts on strategies to address existing supply chain legislation, affordable technologies and to ensure standards and measurement for performance by all stakeholders involved in the implementation of mercury-free mining throughout this 3-day historic event at the Best Western Atlantic Plus Hotel, Takoradi.

The expo will equally present a unique platform for dialogue and exchange of ideas with over 500 attendees and renowned exhibiting companies from 35 countries including government officials, and stakeholders in the whole gold mining value chain.

In addition to the exceptional lineup of events, the expo will for the first time honour legends and organisations that are supporting in galamsey reclamation & mercury recovery across Africa at an executive award ceremony.

Some of the award recipients include Sir Sam Jonah(former Chief Executive of Anglogold Ashanti), Dr Said Deraz (Chairman C.E.O of Euroget Group (Gold Coast Refinery), Mr Johan Zietsman (Director, Gold Recovery Company Ghana limited) Professor Akilagpa Sawyerr (First chairman of the minerals commission) and Sam Opoku (former CEO of Ghana Chamber of Mines).

Keynote speaker for the first Ghana Gold Expo is H.E Nana Addo Adanquah Akuffo-Addo, President of the Republic of Ghana.
