Experts in the energy sector are urging the Ghanaian government to adopt nuclear energy as a key driver of industrialisation.

According to them, nuclear power offers a reliable and stable energy supply, which is crucial for sustaining industries across the country.

Dr Emmanuel Ampoma-Amaako, Director of the Nuclear Installations Directorate at the Nuclear Regulatory Authority (NRA), stressed that nuclear energy provides a trustworthy solution to Ghana’s energy shortfalls.

He explained that nuclear power is a low-carbon electricity source capable of powering industries at a relatively low cost, provided the necessary investments are made.

Dr Ampoma-Amaako made these remarks during a workshop for journalists in the Northern Region, organised by the Nuclear Regulatory Authority on Monday, August 25, 2025.

The event, held at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), brought together experts to discuss best practices and the potential of nuclear technology.

Speaking to OTEC News reporter Kwame Agyenim Boateng on the sidelines of the workshop, Dr Ampoma-Amaako urged journalists to take an interest in nuclear energy discussions to better inform the public.

Journalists who participated in the workshop commended the NRA for the training and assured the Authority of stronger collaboration in educating the public on nuclear technology.
