The United Nations World Tourism Organisation (UNWTO) has commended Ghana for successfully hosting the UNWTO Regional Conference on Brand Africa.

A letter signed by the Secretary General of the UNWTO, Dr Taleb Rifai, and addressed to the Minister of Tourism, Culture and Creative Arts, Mrs Elizabeth Ofosu-Adjare, said Ghana had once again shown the world how Africa could deliver, given the opportunity to host such events.

“I would like to sincerely thank you for providing the tourism leaders of African countries and the world with a platform to come together and engage in interactive discussions on advancing tourism growth through a positive brand in Africa and also for accepting our invitation.

“Ghana has hosted the world and shown leadership on the African Continent by the organisation of the conference,” the letter said.

Ghana recently hosted the first ever UNWTO regional conference on Branding Africa's Image, where 40 countries from around the world came to discuss how Africa could own its narratives.

In a related development, Mrs Ofosu-Adjare is leading Ghana's delegation to the 21st session of the UNWTO General Assembly in Medellin, Colombia.

The General Assembly is the supreme organ of UNWTO.

Its ordinary sessions are held every two years, attended by delegates from UNWTO full and associate members, as well as representatives from UNWTO affiliate members.

This year's assembly is on the theme: “Tourism Development and Social Inclusion”.
