Ghana gets its first locally produced pasta

Ghana has officially entered the local pasta market with the launch of ‘First Choice Premium Spaghetti’, the first pasta brand produced domestically at Olam Agri’s new manufacturing facility in Kpone.

The facility, the first of its kind in the country, was unveiled at a trade event at the Kempinski Hotel in Accra, which brought together trade partners, distributors, and other stakeholders in the food industry.

The new pasta facility is part of Olam Agri’s expansion into Ghana’s consumer food market, which previously focused on flour production. Local manufacturing is expected to reduce reliance on imported pasta and provide a consistent supply for retailers and consumers nationwide.

The facility has the capacity to produce, package, and distribute pasta entirely within Ghana, strengthening the country’s local food processing infrastructure.

During the launch, Olam Agri outlined the brand’s distribution strategy, marketing approach, and commercial plans for trade partners.

The company also announced Naa Ashorkor Mensah-Doku as the brand ambassador for First Choice Premium Spaghetti. Naa Ashorkor is a well-known broadcaster and media personality in Ghana.

Speaking at the event, Business Head Soumya Saxena said the launch reflects the company’s long-term commitment to the Ghanaian market.

“First Choice Premium Spaghetti reflects our belief that Ghanaian families deserve a locally made product that meets the highest standards of quality. Our investment in this facility and this brand is a commitment to this market, and we intend to build something that lasts,” Saxena said.

Marketing Manager Taoheed Aiwinnilomo on his part added that the brand aims to meet the needs of Ghanaian households through consistent quality.

Aiwinnilomo further explained the brand’s positioning in the market saying; “We are entering this category with a clear point of view. First Choice is a brand that understands the Ghanaian household and earns its place on the table through consistency and trust. Our ambition is to make it the pasta brand that families reach for without hesitation.”
