Ghana can create jobs through farming – Agric Expert

Farmers have been urged to use modern methods of farming to improve their yield and create employment for the youth. At a forum to educate traders and agriculturists, an Agriculture Expert, Mr. Edward Kojo Afenya said introduction of modern technology will sustain Ghana’s agricultural produce.

Ghana is one of Africa’s success story with the economy growing at an average rate of 5%. Yet the agriculture sector is unable to dominate the economy and employ the work force which will account for 40 percent of GDP.

“To make Ghana a major exporter of fresh produce and a world leader in Agriculture, there is the need to employ the use of modern technology to achieve high soil productivity, supply of balanced crop nutrients, efficient water management and better plant protection”, he said.

Mr. Afenya, added that farmers should be educated on new trends of farming. The managing Director of Zoubi Trust Limited Mr. Abdoulaziz Issaka advised farmers to use modern technology in agriculture since natural materials are available locally.

He mention that this can help reduce poverty, improve the livelihood of people and generate employment.
