Ghana bourse slightly up on Mobil (MOGL.GH) rise

The all-share index went up slightly by 0.25 percent to 820.88 points, but is still down 5.47 percent on the year to date.

Mobil rose 450 cedis to 16,800.

The only other mover was Social Security Bank (SSB.GH), down 20 to 1,670 cedis.

The most active share on Friday was Ghana Commercial Bank (GCB.GH), unchanged at 1,000 cedis for 36,300 shares traded, or 62 percent of total volume.

Overall volume stood at 58,510 shares for a total value of 75 million cedis ($31,250), compared to just 13,760 traded on Wednesday.

Market heavyweight Ashanti Goldfields (AGC.GH) announced a rise in turnover for first quarter 1999 to $153.7 million, compared to $133.7 million for the same period in 1998.

Ashanti said that net profit rose to $22 million for the first three months to March 31, 1999, against $15 million in 1998.

The share was unchanged on Friday at 18,700 cedis for 310 shares traded.
