Ms Comfort Asante, the Eastern Regional Head of Ghana Post has indicated that, though the institution is faced with some challenges, it is not as dormant as people perceive it.
She said competition from the banks has weaned most of their customers off their services like, Postal Order, cash post, School fees collection and other related services.
Ms Asante said this in an interview with the Ghana News Agency (GNA) on the celebration of the, World Post Day, under the theme ‘’Supporting sustainable Development’’.
She said what Ghana Post need now is re-capitalization and inter connectivity, whereby all its counters would be computerized to ensure effective monitoring and management, and indicated that, management has taken note and was dealing with it in phases.
She said due to the dwindling interest in the posting of letters over the years, Ghana Post has diversified to international money transfers like.
Ms Asante said, management together with the staff, as part of activities to mark the celebration, under took some clean up exercises in and around the yard and also the gutters on the main street.
They also had some interactions and educated some customers on their services, such as, the need to write a prefix at the back of letters and writing eligibly to avoid confusion during sorting.
She said they highlighted on some of the items that would not be allowed in the post like, liquid items, narcotics, currency, guns and objects with sharp edges like knives.
